If the New Madrid fault caused another earthquake as it did a couple hundred years ago, it could cut the United States into two regions.
"I know it sounds weird but that is what nearly happened two hundred years ago and it's overdue for it to happen again", stated Seismologist Allen Meredith.
The fault line is between St. Louis and Memphis and it would not only ruin those two major cities but also Nashville to Louisville, Knoxville to Cincinnati and several other cities and a hundred small towns and cities across a huge area.
Two hundred years ago it was recorded that the Mississippi River ran backwards and it formed a huge lake that is still there today.
"It rang church bells as far away as Boston. It would be a bigger disaster than the big one in California because of it's central location."
There was a 2.8 earthquake there just a few days ago and people say their pets are acting funny with many strays fleeing the area.
