Washington - The family of a terror suspect seized in Libya by US special forces says his only crime was to once pass off a half-baked eel-and-cockle pie as 'halal' despite suspecting it of kosher ingredients.
Lawyers acting for Abu Anas al-Libi's relations have launched a formal protest at his capture by US Delta Force marines following months of trolling surveillance on a pan-Asian cookery site.
Al-Libi had been a regular poster on the Recipe4Disaster.con website and had published details of tried and tested dishes guaranteed to give Al Qaeda opponents the runs.
Last year his signature dish of clambake with chili won the coveted Noballs Prize for Reconstructive Gut Surgery after it was swallowed hook, line and sinker by Somali sea pirates from an official Al Qaeda reject list.
Factional infighting had made the Al Shebab-Kebab terror offshoot an easy target for gut-wrenching revenge attacks which al-Libi's lawyers argue had nothing to do with international terrorism.
"Al-Libi's innocent," lead attorney Abbas Mudaffer commented this morning, "a victim of blatant stereotyping by Pentagon Special Farces in their continuing war on offal stuff."
