image for Iowa May Legalize Marijuana
Many Iowans believe that legalizing pot and taxing it will bring in billions of dollars annually.

DES MOINES - The state of Iowa is seriously considering the legalization of marijuana, or pot as Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, and Willie Nelson refer to it.

A state senator who did not want his name revealed for safety reasons stated that it is no secret that Iowa tourism is down by about 29 percent from this time last year.

He explained that over in Colorado, where marijuana is legal, tourism has increased by 93 percent during the same period.

The unnamed senator remarked that it is no secret that legalizing pot will bring in thousands of people from neighboring states such as Illinois, Wisconsin, and Nebraska as well as college students from New York and California who will enroll in Iowa universities.

He stated that he spoke with a good friend of his who lives in Colorado and he said that he has never seen such a happier bunch of people. He added that the legalizing of pot has given new meaning to the old John Denver song "Rocky Mountain High."

Another plus factor for the legalization of cannabis, as they call it in Massachusetts, is that the citizens of Iowa will stay in Iowa and thus spend their money in their home state instead of in other states.

SIDENOTE: The unnamed senator stated that since the corn crop has not been what was expected due to the droughts, the state will be able to recoup any losses by placing a state tax on the marijuana.
