New Ross, Ireland - Superstitious members of the Kennedy clan beware; a memorial flame commemorating the 50th anniversary of President John F Kennedy's visit to Ireland has suddenly blown out just daze after being lit by former First Daughter Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg.
Kennedy clan members had gathered to see the Emigrant Flame - a national Irish tribute to their diaspora - ignited by a spark from President Kennedy's Eternal Flame that burns at his grave site in Arlington National Cemetery.
Four days later the Flame was suddenly and some say mysteriously snuffed out in what locals fear may be a spooky omen.
"Maybe someone forgot to put a shilling in the gas meter," an official from the Parks Department at Wexford County Council said today, "much more likely than some sort of poltergeist activity if you ask me."
The Emigrant Flame is powered by fracked shale gas paid for by the Irish Government via an Irish Lottery Heritage Grant to the local area council.
It was sculpted in 2012 by local Ballybollox designer Seamus O'Leprechaun who also had a hand in designing the Irish Olympic Flame at last year's Dublin 2012 Olympic Games.
A spokesperson for the Kennedy family said today they were very sorry to hear the news and hoped things would get fixed in time for the next round of photo-ops.
Human frights campaigner Kerry Kennedy is 69.
