image for Roseanne/The Flintstones actor John Goodman lookalike rejected as Obama pick for ambassador to London

Washington DC - A Brit media campaign ridiculing President Obama's choice for the prestigious London ambassador's post has effectively scotched Matthew Barzun's gargantuan political aspirations.

Diplomatic sources on both sides of the Pond have acknowledged that the unflattering 'Appearance: Potato With Hair' profile of the 42 year-old New Yorker has been compounded by reports that Barzun was John Goodman's goofy stuntman in the 1994 movie The Flintstones.

"Yeah, Matt Barzun's a comedy actor kinda guy," a Dupont circle stringer for QM-NewsCorpse said today, "innit for a few laughs and the fabled 12-acre London ambassadorial residence.

"Unfortunately the Brits have an aversion to these movie actor lookalikes because they tend to frighten the horses at diplomatic ceremonial events."

Barzun apparently raised some $700m for Obama's re-election campaign for which he expects recognition with the State Department's top sinecure.

"Mr Barzun should shed 100lbs and that terrible rug," the reporter explained, referring to Barzun's alleged hairpiece, "too many Brits have seen The Flintstones movie and will find it hard to keep a straight face."

Confirmation of the top diplomatic posting ay now be postponed until after July 4th.
