Sympathetic critics came out to attack the Onion because they used Quvenzhane Wallis in satirical comedy.
The satire was innocent, but critics quickly made it out to be something that it was not. This is the original concept of the Onion writer: "Everyone else seems afraid to say it, but that Quvenzhane Wallis is kind of a cake, right? #Oscars2013"
The writer was referring to Quvenzhane Wallis's attire at the Oscars. She was dressed in a blue Disney style dress with a puppy purse. This is opposite to what other young actors and actresses have worn in the past at the Oscars, from formal tuxedos to classic designer dresses made small.
The Onion writer was trying to point to the fact that it could be a sin to refer to Quvenzhane Wallis as being too sweet because she broke with the tradition of wearing formal clothing to the Oscars.
People have strong compassionate feelings towards Quvenzhane Wallis and they couldn't see her in a funny way. Comedians sometimes try to tap into taboo to get laughs out of a new subject material and those are the times when things could go terribly wrong.
Comedians have to live by the words of Kenny Loggins, "You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away and know when to run."
Selena Quintana once tested her funny talents by doing stand up comedy behind Yolanda Saldvir by pretending to vomit on her. Someone took a picture of the incident and they posted it on the Internet at a later moment in time. This could explain why Saldvir acted out in the way she did.
Lady Gaga did the same thing with Cindy Lauper, by standing behind Lauper and pretending to vomit on her head. A picture was taken and it was also posted on the Internet, and people may have laughed after seeing the tasteless image.
The Onion made the right decision in apologizing for the misunderstanding, even though their tweet was intended to be cute not vulgar. There is a big difference between the word "cake" and the vulgar word people imagined in the darkest part of their perverted minds, c***.
Real victims of physical violence are expected to materialize because of the media hype caused by the critics. Opportunist are like spiders that lay in wait for a victim to arrive before they give themselves an excuse to pounce and strike at their victim.
The Onion took down the tweet within an hour to protect Quvenzhane Wallis from any embarrassment, but the critics wouldn't have it unless she was their child that needed protection from embarrassment.
Those judgmental critics never bothered to call the Onion to get an explanation of the tweets before coming up with their own conclusions and tampering with evidence. Those critics showed a total disregard towards social responsibilities.
Segregating curiosity and caution may be as intelligent as keeping away from people that could hurt you.
