IBM is set to create an artificial lawyer, using the Watson computer, to help aide society with their legal problems.
The Watson Law TR3 will be the first computer of it's kind that's capable of connecting real life situations to legal outcomes and judicial proceedings.
Watson will ask a series of questions to determine the acceptable evidence available and the type of case that the court will proceed under.
Watson is an artificial intelligence computer system capable of answering questions given by human language. The Watson Law TR3 was specifically developed to answer people's complex legal questions with 100% accuracy.
What normally takes a lawyer several months to research and solve will only take the Watson Law TR3 approximately four seconds to solve.
The Watson Law TR3 has access to 200 million pages of structured and unstructured legal content consuming four terabytes of disk storage including the full contents of Federal and State law books, with yearly updates. It contains federal court procedures, the court procedures for every state, criminal and civil procedures, judicial opinions, case laws, and precedence attributed to each particular court across the United States.
The Watson TR3 was put up against the nation's top lawyers in mock trails and moot courts to test it's abilities. It won every mock trail and moot court it came across with no errors, dismaying the legal team it went up against.
For each question asked of the Watson Law TR3, it determines a series of appropriate questions to ask the person it's helping, so it can narrow down the things needed to be done to improve the legal outcome of that person. It calculates the probability of success for the case, pointing out the key issues the opposition might use against a person and the person's best possible defense for each issue.
The courts are expecting a reduction in the amount of frivolous cases and a faster processing of cases which will save the Federal government and State governments billions of dollars a year.
One Watson computer will be stationed in the lobby of each court house across the United States for the public's use.
The Watson Law TR3 has a disclaimer before use, "The Watson Law TR3 is not responsible for the outcome of any case. Furthermore, the use of the Watson Law TR3 is for entertainment and educational purposes. If you agree with these terms, push the red button and proceed with usage."
