Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was hospitalized Sunday after doctors discovered her hairstyle, for some time a cause for concern, had become even worse, her spokesman said.
She is expected to remain at New York Presbyterian Hospital for the next 48 hours so doctors can monitor her hairstyle and treat her with conditioners and other proprietary hair treatments, said Philippe Reines, deputy assistant secretary of state.
"Her doctors will continue to assess her condition, including other issues associated with her dress sense," Reines said. "They will determine if any further action is required."
Reines did not specify when the critical state of her hair was discovered.
Clinton, 65, was said to have been suffering from a stomach virus earlier this month when she fainted supposedly of dehydration, causing concussion, but in the light of recent events,it is now thought she probably caught sight of herself while passing a mirror.
How serious is an appalling hairstyle ?
" Appalling hairstyles can cause offence to Officials from other countries," according to the National Institutes for personal standards. "If not "treated promptly, it can lead to issue damage and terminal rejection."
Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN chief medical correspondent, says the fact that Clinton's hair is being so intensively treated may offer a clue to the serious extent of its condition.
Clinton spent the holidays with her family last week after working from home.
She was scheduled to return to work at the State Department this week after being sidelined for the past three weeks. Her hairstyle forced her to bow out of testifying on December 20 before the House Foreign Affairs Committee on the deadly attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. Deputies Thomas Nides and Bill Burns who both have acceptable hairstyles appeared in her place.
