Manhattan, NY - Manhattan has been lighting up the Empire State Building for decades as a symbol of power and wealth but now some New Yorkers are getting mad.
This week, Mayor Bloomberg unveiled a new and improved Empire State Building which has been refitted with an LED lighting display that features over four thousand lights, just in time for the holidays. The lighting display can produce almost any shade of color but some folks are only seeing red. Those still without power in the outter lying boroughs, see it as a giant shining finger that is directed right at them.
"The timing couldn't be worse." Said Manny Limpecki, who has been without power in his Staten Island home since Super Storm Sandy came to visit. "I feel like Bloomberg and Manhattan are giving me and my family a nice big f-you for the holidays." Added the disgusted man.
Others who have lived in their homes without power for over a month now, feel the same way. Manhattan was one of the first places where the power came back, which had people in the outter buroughs up in arms. Now, with The Empire State Building's new lighting display, those folks just got a whole lot madder.
"Usually, I take the family into the city to see the Rockefellar Christmas Tree and do some shopping," Said Limpecki, "but not this year. Way to show us just how much you really care Bloomberg!" Mr. Limpecki added, as he threw some more of his children's moldy toys out on to the sidewalk.
