The US Department of State's idea of international diplomacy is the censorship of common phrases and idioms to establish political correctness of diplomatic speech. It's as if "Foggy Bottom" never heard of the first amendment to the US Constitution.
The US Department of State's chief diversity officer Mr. John M. Robinson has opined that diplomats should not use "holding down the fort" deemed racist, "Going Dutch" deemed derogatory and "Rule of thumb" deemed as being against women! Mr. Robinson doesn't really know if the origins of his statements about such phrases are even true. Perhaps he made these stories up in the middle of the night?
President Obama hearing about politically correct speech at the US Department of State released an Executive Order to all US government employees and defense contractors banning such phrases. The president added such phrases as black sheep, black hole (Stephen Hawking was quite upset), yellow corn, Spanish rice, French postcards and red Indians to the list.
The US Department of State and the White House appear diplomatically clueless as to the real intentions of various countries in this world such as Iran, North Korea, Russia, China, Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, yet alienate the USA's foreign friends such as Poland, the Czech Republic and Israel.
Many nations unfriendly to the USA just want to kill US diplomats and US citizens regardless of their speech habits.
