Waffle, NC - As a nod to one of President Obama's most notable achievements, the Obama Administration's decision to change Labor day to Labrador Retriever day, the Democratic National Convention, which starts on Labrador Retriever Day, will begin with a hours-long salute to Labrador Retrievers.
The Day is to kick off with a ceremony to honor the dog, followed by a parade of Labradors and their dogs flown in from Labrador especially for the occasion. After that one dog will lead delegates from each state to the podium to deliver the votes that will officially nominate the president for a second chance or term.
The president himself is scheduled to greet each group at the platform with a friendly pat on the head and a Milk Bone Biscuit.
In making the announcement in the Rose Garden, today, Mr. Obama repeated those sentiments he shared when he made the original pronouncement three years ago: "The exceptionally affable, gentle, intelligent, energetic and good natured Labrador Retriever is certainly a dog we can all emulate and celebrate. This dog, above all others, deserves to have it's own day. A Labrador can carry an egg in its mouth without breaking it and that is something we should all try not to do. Breaking eggs."
