Washington DC: Congress has gotten wind of another Solyndra type corporate bankruptcy that will cost US taxpayers $500 million.
President Obama authorized the Department of Energy (DOE) to fund Gastronomics to design and build a prototype model of an artificial stomach. The green fuel being beans (Soy, Lima or Navy) to produce clean burning natural gas without any drilling. The working prototype model would then be scaled up to facilitate replacing aging coal fired electricity generating power plants with gas fired turbine plants.
The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) was highly supportive, as US farmers could use all their excess land to grow beans and not require any taxpayer provided subsidies.
A demonstration of a full scale artificial stomach unit was conducted at the Capitol Power Plant which provides steam and cooled water for the United States Capitol/Capitol Complex buildings. This plant converted to natural gas in 2009 and was ideal for the test with the new natural gas source.
The test was successful, but the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ordered the facility temporarily shut down as the artificial stomach violated the Clean Air Act. The US House and US Senate in session, White House personnel at their desks and everyone with noses within the National Mall area agree with the decision.
