After The Supreme Court on Thursday struck down a federal law making it a crime to lie about receiving the Medal of Honor and other prized military awards, with justices branding the false claim "contemptible" but nonetheless protected by the First Amendment one war hero is demanding that the law be imposed and that frauds and "Walter Mittys" be punished.
The court voted 6-3 in favor of Xavier Alvarez who falsely said he was a decorated war veteran and had pleaded guilty to violating the 2006 law, known as the Stolen Valor Act.
The decision though to throw out the charges has angered former Colonel TK Bolt who said "I find these liars simply disgusting, they make a mockery of real war heroes and veterans like me, they are simply cowards who just parade around in unearned medals and half the time did not even fight in these wars! I am just flabbergasted that these "men" are not in jail."
Lt Col Bolt, 42, has every right to be angry, he is the proud recipient of several military medals, boasting the World War II Victory Medal, the Purple Hearts he won in Vietnam, Kuwait, during D-Day, the Little Big Horn and at the Battle of Gettysburg and of course the medals he won when asked to help the British, the Victoria Cross he got fighting the Zulus and his bravery award received after the Battle of Agincourt.
