Mary With A Few Of Her Co-Workers

Philadelphia, PA-- Mary Smith is the perfect employee! Mary works for the XXX Electric Company as a customer service rep. She's always the first one at her desk in the morning and the last to leave at night. She loves working overtime and weekends and is never sick. Mary has a little secret though. She doesn't live anywhere.

Mary was hired by the XXX Electric Company six years ago. When Mary was hired, she had just been evicted from her apartment and was penniless. She had been living in her car but it broke down on her very first day on the job. Mary knew she had to use her wits to survive.

After her first day of work ended, Mary found an empty office to sleep in. The XXX Electric Company went through some serious downsizing in the years before, and it was easy for her to find a place to sleep. She found some discarded clothes and wore them for her second day at work.

The XXX Electric Company building has over 30 floors, and Mary has made it her home. Mary showers in the company gym every morning and eats breakfast, lunch and dinner in the company cafeteria. Mary can watch cable TV in the employee lounge and do her banking right inside the company credit union. Mary hasn't been outside in six years.

Mary is very popular with her co-workers and her supervisors and has many friends in the office. She chats with them on her cell phone after working hours and visits them on Facebook everyday. Her friends do think she is a little strange though because she never visits them and never invites people over. Someone started a rumor that Mary was in an abusive relationship--no one could begin to guess Mary's real secret.

Mary has saved over $200,000.00 in the last six years by living in her office building. She has no rent or mortgage, no utility bills, no car payments and no worries.

Mary has recently discovered that her odd way of life isn't unique. Dozens of her co-workers also live in the building with her.

"Life is strange." remarked Mary. "It is far stranger than any fiction."
