Beijing PRC: Vice President Biden was recently a guest of his Chinese counterpart Vice President Xi Jinping, who will take over China's government and the ruling Communist Party next year.

During formal speeches both vice presidents stressed the common interests of their two respective countries working together. At subsequent meetings Vice President Biden asked China to allow its currency to further appreciate, to continue its shifting away from relying on the American export market and to increase its domestic consumption of American goods. Vice President Xi Jinping showed no apparent reaction to Vice President Biden's requests.

Both vice presidents co-hosted a banquet and roundtable meeting of Chinese and American business leaders. A special menu was prepared for the visiting Americans.
