Greater Manchester Police this evening revealed how extensive surveillance had brought down a gang intent on bringing terror to Manchester Airport.
Dawn raids in Salford, Wythenshawe and Stretford resulted in the arrests of six individuals believed to have been involved in the conspiracy.
Detective Chief Inspector Terry Duckworth told a press conference:
"Greater Manchester Police can confirm that six men were arrested in Salford, Wythenshawe and Stretford under the anti-terrorism act and are currently being questioned at Bootle Street Police Station. The suspects are accused of plotting a terror attack at Manchester Airport. The investigation is currently ongoing."
According to word on the street, the six arrested individuals were part of a terror group known only as 'The Real Red Army.'
A Skoob News reporter managed to secure an interview with a representative of the group in an underpass on Chester Road.
"These lads were the real deal," our nervous informant told us. "They planned to wait in the airport arrivals hall and scatter ball bearings all over the shop as the Chelsea squad came through. To trip 'em up, like. They didn't really want Lampard, Terry, Drogba and co to sustain serious injuries or anything. Just shake 'em up a bit before the Premiership crunch match at Old Trafford. Sort of a 'Welcome To Manchester' gesture, if you will. Like. As it stands at the moment though, it looks like the RRA will have to settle for singing Cheryl Cole songs at Ashley from the stands. You gotta hand it to the Dibble though. They were shit hot on this one. Strangled the life out of it before it ever got off the ground. I mean, like - respect and all that. Man."
More as we get it.
