Fans travelling to Wembley for last night's semi final between Man Utd and Man City were hit by major delays after a large section of the M1 was closed for much of the day.
The motorway was shut between Junction 4 at Elstree, Herts and Juntion 1 at Brent Cross after the chip fell off Wayne Rooney's shoulder, rolled off the Man Utd team bus and caused a 60 foot crater across the northbound and southbound carriageways.
Despite emergency services working all day to make the road safe, thousands of fans were stuck in traffic queues that at one point during the day stretched for 50 miles.
An oblivious Rooney commented to reporters "The first I knew was when I got off the bus in London and I felt as if a weight had been lifted off me. I feel like a new man.
But if you don't get out of my face, I'll put one on you".
