Amanda Knox has been given fresh hope when a prosecution witness was discredited as being unreliable. Tramp and drug addict Antonio Curatolo had originally stated that when he had seen Amanda Knox and Raffaelo Solicito, 25, they had been waiting for a bus; when in fact no buses had been running on that evening as it was a bank holiday in Italy.
The fact that there is insufficient DNA evidence to prove Knox's guilt has been verified by two independent experts.
The case for the prosecution has relied heavily upon the evidence of a heroin addict who has slept 'rough' in the Perugia town square and now glaring inconsistencies in his account has been discovered by the defence team.
Amanda Knox is said to be 'falling apart' and does not dare hope that her name might soon be cleared. She has become distraught and catatonic after being incarcerated for almost two years in an Italian jail.
Amanda Knox has received a large following and has even received marriage proposals from men she has never met whilst she has been in prison. Her parents have been fighting to clear her name. She has not been helped by her 'partying life style' and photographs on her personal blog; and unsavoury about her personal life which has been used against her.
In the trial the prosecution claimed that Meredith Kercher was murdered by Knox and Sollecito during a 'sex game' which had gone wrong when Meredith refused to participate in a Knox's sexual fantasy. It has been alleged that Meredith had been sexually assaulted by Knox and some men-friends of hers and that she was murdered to 'keep her quiet' and stop her telling other people about the attack.
The trail has now gone cold and the Italian police have botched the forensics so it is difficult now for a court to definitively prove whether Knox is either conclusively innocent or guilty. Meanwhile the Kercher family have been forced to relive the whole nightmare of what happened to fun-loving, popular Meredith who was on a study year in Italy.
