LONDON - It is being reported in several England publications that the sharp-tongued comedian Ricky Gervais has agreed to be the master of ceremonies at the upcoming April 29th Royal Wedding Reception for Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Gervais, who is known for his direct, take-no-prisoners satirical approach, spoke with Chatsworth Wiggonholt of Ta Ta For Now News and confirmed the rumor that had first appeared in a report filed by Emma McPiddlehilton of The Bees Knees News Agency.
Ricky who was a hit at the recent Golden Globes Awards in Hollywood as well as on the Piers Morgan Tonight talk show stated that he is as happy as a woodpecker in Sherwood Forest to be asked by Queen Elizabeth herself to do the MCing honors.
Gervais when asked what he will be getting paid for the Royal gig, giggled, took a sip from his glass of beer, and replied, "Can ya believe it mate, dey is payin dis here bloke £200,000 [$325,000 U.S.]."
He then disclosed that the Rolling Stones who are providing the wedding reception's music are being paid £300,000 [$488,000 U.S.].
The native of Reading, Berkshire in England was absolutely amazed at the amount he is being paid for a mere three or four hours. He told TTFNN's Wiggonholt that he knew the Queen was loaded with tons and tons of money but he had no idea that she was THAT loaded.
He further remarked to Wiggonholt that he is so thrilled and honored to be asked to attend such a monumental extravaganza that he would have done the MC duties for nothing.
Gervais took another drink of his beer, and then another, and then stated "Bbbbbut don't cha be tellin Queeny dat I sed dat ya hear."
Ricky Gervais is 49, Prince William is 28, Kate Middleton is 29, Mick Jagger is 67, and Queen Elizabeth II is 84.
