(Published 2060) - LAYER 22, BIRMINGHAM - A 487-car pile-up between the vetipass traffic and the orbitalpass on layer 22 ends up with 198 dead and 436 injured.
The collision occurred when a car from Layer 21 vertijumped up into orbitalway traffic, causing a huge pile-up that the automatic traffic transponder could not handle.
The delays go back 200km in both orbital directions, and fifteen layers in both vertipasses.
Paramedics warp-jumped on the scene within 20 milliseconds of the collison and restored the cortex-stack of all 198 dead into temporary bodies until their present ones could be repaired.
"It was a shame what happened here," said Fergahl Panasonic Smith, president of the ruling transnational, "I believe that such an occurance would never happen again."
The traffic flow was soon restored after all the involved vehicles were warp-shoved into the rubbish bays on the side of the orbitalway.
