Pete Doherty and David Cameron have been caught on Utube enjoying a moment of Morrissey Madness in a French Train Station Newspaper shop.
The moment began whilst both David Cameron and Pete Doherty were innocently waiting in a queue to buy a newspaper. Recognition did pass between them, but as neither thought they had anything at all in common, they ignored each other politely in the usual English way.
David bought a copy of The Financial Times and Pete bought a copy of Le Figaro. Both had intentions of departing from the train station shop forever, never to mention the encounter to anyone. But then something very peculiar happened. A song came on the French Radio station that changed the grim expressions on each of their faces to different expressions of 80s GLEE.
That song was "Girlfriend in a Coma" by Morrissey. David was so overcome with 80s nostalgia that he began to dance in a manner well known to Morrissey fans all around the world. Pete saw the familiar dance of his hero and joined in, and together Dave and Pete shared a moment that will last through time.
"It was beautiful" Said a French Artist called Millie. "David and Pete danced like they were two best friends at a party and it almost seemed for one second that ... the world had become a nicer place."
But then the music stopped, and David remembered he was the Prime Minister, and Pete remembered that David had been banned from liking The Smiths by Morrissey's ex band mate.
It was a very awkward moment. David Cameron's bodyguards searched the train station for CCTV footage of the event, and Pete looked around to see if anyone had witnessed the terrible embarrassment of him dancing with a Tory.
To both of their immense relief, a Security guard declared that he thought they had been successful in their mission to confiscate all the camera phones in the station. He reassured both the PM and Pete that their unplanned moment of togetherness would never be heard of again.
But in this day of portable technical wizardry, it is extremely silly to make such a reassurance. It is a well known fact that embarrassing video footage always gets through the tightest of security, and by 6pm last night the embarrassing footage was on Utube.
Both parties are denying that the event ever happened but the proof in now on Utube, and it will be seen forever, never to be erased...ever. This could be the end of two very different careers for very different reasons.
