Karren Brady, West Ham Vice Chairman, has been given the extra role of Director of Sky Sports on the personal direction of Rupert Murdoch who has rushed back to the UK from America to sort out the crisis caused by sexist remarks by football pundits Andy Grey and Richard Keys.
In a personal message to Karren, Murdoch emphasised his annoyance at the insult she had suffered due to off-air comments by Sky's presenters.
'This is a crisis for News International' he told reporters 'an internal enquiry will sort out whether disciplinary measures are required.'
David Cameron has Karren Brady high on his list as his possible Communications Director as West Ham are poised to take over the Olympic Stadium after the games and are heading for two Cup finals.
Sian Massey, the lineswoman who was ridiculed by the Sky presenters about her capacity to understand the offside rule was also sent a personal apology from Rupert Murdoch. She dismissed the whole issue as 'an ignorant and stupid lapse' by the Sky presenters.
However Joe Carper, speaking from the behind the goal when Sian Massey was officiating, said he could see clearly that she should have given offside in a recent match. The television pictures showing her judgement was right were, he said, 'cooked up by Karren Brady'.
