Prince William, who this week announced his engagement to long-suffering/time girlfriend Kate Middleton, has revealed that presenting his bride-to-be with his mother's own engagement ring was probably the best commercial business decision he's ever made.
The ring, known as the Ring of Death, was carved off the finger of the dying princess as she lay trapped in the carnage of the car crash in the Alma tunnel in Paris in 1997. The event has will now be immortalised in the new Xbox360 game, earmarked for release next summer, entitled The Red Ring Of Death.
The release will make the prince extremely wealthy.
Our gaming correspondent, Ian Hopeless, told us that the game revolves around a hair-raising car chase through the Paris suburbs in the early hours. Choices include playing as chauffeur Henri Paul, hitman the Duke of Edinburgh, or one of the chasing paparazzi, and players can also elect whether or not they are stone cold sober or as pissed as a newt - a French newt called Henri Paul.
A unnamed Buckingham Palace advisor told us earlier:
"This game will be the most exciting thing to happen next year - and certainly a lot more exciting than the wedding of these two braindead muppets."
