Meat from Tamagotchis bred during the late 90s and early 00s has gone into the UK food chain, officials said today.
The news came as evidence emerged that some Tamagotchi meat had also been exported to other countries from China and Japan, mainly for use in oriental food outlets, but having now found its way onto the wider market.
Amid continued confusion over the legality of the practice, the Food Standards Agency said meat from the Tamagotchis was sold in London last month.
Last week it revealed that meat from two slaughtered digital pets had been sold in Chinatown due to a shortage of cats and dogs in the West End area of London.
Agency investigators are also checking reports that milk from Tamagotchis was sold but have been told by farmers that this had not happened.
