There was uproar in the village this morning when the news got out that a dog was seen looking over a gate.
The bizarre event became a major talking point amongst the residents of the quiet seaside area of Cockleshell Bay.
What was he looking at? And where would he look next.
The so-called 'Beast of Cockleshell Bay'was seen looking in the direction of a tree.
There may have been a cat up it. Or a cat with a mouse in its mouth. Or a squirrel.
"I am scared that he might look over my garden fence. Anything's possible these days", said a worried mother of two.
"I keep a stick by my bedside just in case - to throw at the dog so as to distract it. Then I'll make my escape with my darling little children...".
Neighbourhood watch groups prowl the back alleyways and car parks searching for any trace of the animal.
There were rumours that a creature of some sort was seen trying to peek into a rabbit hole down by Farmer Toms barn.
"We must be brave", said one man, "but I am terrified he might just stare at me with those big, brown, puppy-dog eyes. They say dogs see in black and white...I wouldn't like that one bit. I'd feel like Charlie Chaplin. Or Harold Lloyd...".
Who knows where the Beast will strike next. You have been warned.
