image for As The Raoul Moat Tributes Pour In - PC David Rathband Faces Fight To Save His Sight
PC David Rathband Was Unarmed When He Was Shot

As the Raoul Moat inquest opens today, and as the tributes and sympathy messages pour in, some commentators have requested to the news media that amidst all the recriminations, accusations, and outpourings of grief for the unfortunate gunman that perhaps people could spare a thought for PC David Rathband.

PC Rathband, 42, a married father of two, shot twice, in the face and chest at point blank range by Raoul Moat on an A1 roundabout - whilst on traffic duty - faces reconstructive surgery to his face, and the possibility of being blinded in the attack.

PC Rathband has stated that he bears no ill will towards the late Raoul Moat, and is bearing up as best he can, buoyed by messages of love and encouragement from his family.

Ironically, as Raoul Moat's brother, Angus, pops up out of the woodwork almost in tears complaining about the heavy handed treatment his brother received from the police; as far I am aware, no apology has been offered to the family of PC Rathband, or to the family of Chris Brown, who Moat gunned down and killed.

Critics say that the Moat case has turned morality upside down, with sympathy and hero worship being heaped on a disturbed man, while his innocent victims are largely ignored.

Here at Skoob News, I wish PC David Rathband all the very best in his recovery, which is likely to be long and arduous, and we offer a prayer that he emerges from the other side with his vision at least partially intact. I don't think that's too much to ask.

More as I get it.

Update - sadly, it has been confirmed that PC Rathband has indeed lost his sight. He faces a long hard road, and our thanks and best wishes from here at Skoob News go with him.

God bless you sir.
