Abner and Annie are from Illinois and they love to travel. They have come to Scotland to visit the home town of Miss Susan Boyle, Annie's heroine.
Abner is a great reader and has asked his Scottish friend, Jimmy Broon to show them round, starting at Hadrians Wall.
They are fascinated to learn that the wall was built by the Romans to keep the Scots in. Even then, they learn, the Scots were onorary and preferred their independence. Jimmy tells them the story of the Scots fighting the "Auld Enemy" throughout history and how the Scots are still coming out on top.
Jimmy drives his visitors to Edinburgh, where they marvel at the Castle, Holyrood House and the history in which the Scottish capital is steeped.
Abner is taken by a very modern looking building at the bottom of the Royal Mile. Jimmy tells them that it is the Scottish Parliament that cost $600 million to construct. The Americans are impressed. Abner asks about Prime Ministers and how does that work in Scotland.
Jimmy explains that Scotland has it's own Prime Minister but that the UK has a Prime Minister, also a Scot. Abner is mighty impressed that a small country holds so much power. He is even more impressed that the UK Chancellor is also a Scot.
Abner is amazed when Jimmy explains that someone else pays for it all.
"Kerching" says Abner, "you Scots aren't so stupid are you?"
