A Leicester taxi driver handed out leaflets today in the city asking the public to refrain from knee-jerk reactions over alleged cases of sexual abuse by priests on children and subsequent cover-ups by the Church.
The leaflet stated quite calmly that any form of sexual abuse against children, or anyone, is a horrible crime against the victim, against the perpetrator, and against God.
It then went on to quote the Bible, the 'cast the first stone' verse, before really getting to grips with its subject matter. Calmly and logically it goes on to say that sexual abuse among religious figures cannot possibly be the sole diomain of the Roman Catholic Church.
If it happens there, it says, which it obviously has, then it follows that identical practices must be taking place among every religious faith group in the world, and that it must be rooted out and exposed for the evil that it surely is, wherever it exists.
The taxi driver, Alfie MacAlpine said that he found a pile of the leaflets on a bench in the city centre and decided to distribute them for a laugh.
More as we get it.
