BEFORE HIS ENTRY into politics, Alan Johnson was the country's best-known Bill Haley lookalike.
Once be-quiffed and with a guitar slung round his neck, the 19 year old Johnson went by the name of Sweet Ally-Jo, The Rocker Billy Ho.
Now aged 59 he goes by the much grander title of Secretary of State for Health, and this month will return to his showbiz roots with a guest slot on TV's Holby City.
Producer Melissa Beetroot said: "It's a real coup for us to get the Health Secretary. We wasn't sure he'd agree but now that he has, we hope he'll bring his guitar and rock us round the clock."
In a formal statement the Minister's Private Secretary said: "Mr Johnson was delighted to be invited and hopes to showcase the wonderful work of the NHS."
Privately however, Johnson was said to be using the move as a safety net against the next election.
He told a friend: "One o'clock, two o'clock, three o'clock rock because frankly Jack we're finished. Best to put the feelers out now and see how the land lies then end up in the House of Lords waiting for our next meal."
Mr Johnson will be seen in Tuesday's episode at 8pm on BBC1.
