LONDON, ENGLAND, UK Lorry (truck) driver Laurie Rowe apparently took offense when George Michael failed to proposition him following an accident involving the singer's Land Rover and summoned police to investigate the incident.
Rowe stated that Michael "seemed completely disorientated, like he had no idea what was going on. He looked totally dazed and even tried to climb into the cab of my lorry."
The problem began when Michael sought only an exchange of insurance information, nothing more. Michael stated "I got into the cab and then this guy started playing this game, which I think is called, 'I'll show you mine, you show me yours."
Feeling rejected by Michael, the truck driver seized upon Michael's former arrest records for drugs, alcohol, and solicitation of a male undercover officer as a means of revenge.
Rowe also reported he had been assaulted by Michael, stating "He hit me so hard that it knocked my rear two feet up in the air"; a spokeswoman for Michael called the report "rubbish".
Police reports later confirmed that a man had been taken to the Lodden Valley police station near Reading in southeast England following the collision. Michael was held for five hours early Friday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence of drink and drugs, but was finally released without being charged.
Michael later issued a statement denying any wrongdoing on his part.
