Not satisfied with saving the world, the rain forests, polar bears, whales, New Labour, Old Labour, Joanna Lumley, and the Gospel Singers Of America, Bono is to have his latest piece of self indulgent pap performed on BBC Radio Four tonight - his rambling tribute to Elvis.
And if previews are to be believed, this latest foray into the crossover world of reality/art/lyricism/reality/neo realism/neo lyricism with musical soundbites tossed into the mix, this production really SUCKS!
Containing such lines as:
"Elvis drove a truck"
"Darling bud flowered and returned to the Mississippi mud"
allegedly, the entire world waits with bated breath for further nuggets of received wisdom to spew forth from the Irish annointed one, so we can all quote him in the street and come across as being profound.
"I don't get this," a long time U2 fan told us. "They used to make great records, like Bloody Sunday, Where The Streets Have No Name, Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, Angel Of Harlem, and Beautiful Day. And now Bono starts droning on about Elvis dying on the toilet, wearing a nappy, eating a burger. It's just wrong. The man's lost it."
Elvis will be performed on BBC Radio 4 at 11pm.
More when we've heard it.
Now we've heard it. It was more shit than we could ever have imagined. Jeeze...
