He wowed everybody with his impeccable interpretation of classic soul song 'Ain't No Sunshine' and had the judges positively salivating, but for young rugby player Shaun Smith, it was the start of a nightmare.
As the jubilant youngster returned to the family car after the show he was grabbed by a rather seedy looking man in a grubby raincoat, much to the chagrin of family and friends.
"This guy was off his head," a friend told us. "He was screaming that he knew Shaun's secret, calling him a cheat and trying to drag him off somewhere. It seems the guy's all-time hero was Bill Withers, and he couldn't accept that anybody else could do a Bill Withers song justice. He thought Shaun was actually Bill Withers in white-man make up, like Eddie Murphy and Lenny Henry used to do. I thought Shaun handled the situation exceptionally well. Kicked the nutter in the bollocks. Really hard. It brought tears to MY eyes!"
It is not known if the assailant then went on to appear on the show as Greg Pritchard, singing Nessun Dorma in soprano.
But we'll let you know.
