image for Gordon Brown to bet £1bn on red in Vegas Casino

"Desperate times call for desperate measures", was the theme from a Downing Street press conference, as the Government announced a "high risk strategy" in order to address the British debt levels.

In 2 weeks time, the Prime Minister and a number of cabinet members will be visiting Las Vegas in order to place a number of bets with an aim of winning back 5% of UK GDP from the casinos.

The plan has been painstakingly created, and each member of the travelling party will be issued £1bn to gamble for the good of the nation.

Alistair Darling will be working the poker tables, Harriet Harman will be on the slot machines, and both Miliband brothers will be wearing matching cream suits and attempting to count cards at the blackjack tables.

Gordon Brown has been designated the roulette tables and seems to be set on the idea of betting the entire amount in one go, on red.
