image for Racist Ghosts hound Millionaire out of mansion
Apparent Apparition

It is said that "An Englishman's home is his castle." There may well be some truth in this idiom as millionaire Mr Anwar Rashid has found out to his cost when he bought a 51-room mansion, Clifton Hall, in Nottinghamshire. The 32-year-old tycoon, who already owns a string of properties; mainly nursing homes but also a hotel in Dubai has deliberately defaulted on his mortgage and allowed the bank to reclaim the impressive £3.6 million mansion.

Mr Rashid told In Seine News;

"Since I bought the house, I have been plagued with all kinds of ghosts and ghoulies. There have been bloodstains on all my sheets, ghostly writings and music, singing and laughter. My wife has refused to live there any more and we have had to flee to a nearby village and allow the banks to have it back. It's only money at the end of the day and what money I've lost cannot buy the peace we are now experiencing."

He continued…"I didn't believe in ghosts before moving here, but now I have no doubts they're real OK! It all started when we fad our first evening meal in our new home when we heard a ghostly band playing the tune 'Land of Hope and Glory' and then a voice started singing 'Britannia Rules the waves'. We just laughed it off because we thought it was local pranksters so we went to bed. What became scary was the writing on the wall that appeared that night; 'Go home' it said written in what appears to be blood. It's quite obvious these ghosts don't want us around!"

Local Historian Giles Raven'snest said that; "The mansion had been in the same family for well over 500 years. One of them was a Royal Navy Sea Captain who was killed in action in India in 1834. The spirit of this man has obviously not forgiven the Indians. It doesn't mean he's racist though."

A spokesman for Northern Rock who granted the mortgage is reported as saying;

"It's great news - we've repossessed a possessed home!"
