Hundreds of black cabs in London are to undergo safety checks over fears they may burst into flames.
About 500 vehicles have been recalled after seven engine fires were reported in London in the past three months.
Taxi drivers believe that a safety feature designed to prevent drivers going 'sarf of the river? At this time of night?' is the source of the problem.
One driver said today, "All our best fares tend to be north of the Thames, especially on weekend evenings so the fail safe was put in place to prevent us unnecessarily going to places like Croydon."
The device was supposed to just shut down the engine if the taxi travelled more than one mile south of the river however, the settings are believed to be too sensitive.
