Celebrity cat Tom, the eponymous half of the TV series "Tom and Jerry" has today taken the Blackpool branch of the RSPCA to task.
Appearing on the West Pier in Dick Whittington and his Cat, Tom was taken ill late last night and rushed to the local branch of the RSPCA. He takes up the story:
"I'd been rushing around the stage all night with Russ Abbott, enjoying a packed house with the usual "he's behind you" routines, when I felt all dizzy. Russ stopped the show and immediately took me to the RSPCA.
"I was absolutely gob-smacked when we got there!
"The three-year old copies of Lancashire Life and a February edition of the Sunday Mirror I can put up with, but you should have seen the state of that waiting room.
"The lighting was absolutely poor, there was no fresh water, and it smelled like a zoo. It patently hadn't been cleaned for weeks!
"And when a fellow patient's owner said to Russ "This room's so small you couldn't swing a cat in here" I really lost it!
"You come to these places expecting a modicum of cleanliness and not to be referred to as a 'swingometer'."
