image for Teachers strike to hit small industries where it hurts
Mr Griffiths on strike yesterday

Corduroy elbow pad manufacturer Elroy McManus told of his deep fears for the future of his company should the teacher strike continue.

"We normally sell two or three sets a year to geography teachers all over the country but if they are on strike and not resting on their elbows then that could be halved. My business could go under." said a despondent Elroy yesterday.

Other businesses are set to take financial hit. Whistle manufacturer TooT Sweet has already posted profit warnings and pocket protector maker SafePock has laid off a couple of workers.

"You would think these educated people would look at the impact they are having by taking yet more days off in a year" said a Department of Trade and Industry spokesman.

Alcohol and tobacco sales are said to be unaffected however as most Teachers consume the same volumes whether on strike or not.
