A poll conducted by ICM shows that a majority French people want Tony Blair to be the next President of Europe.
76% of French citizens thought he would be the best man for the job, beating Joan of Arc into second place. It was pointed out, however, that because the poll was conducted between mid-day and 2pm, most French people would have been on a break.
French President Nicholas Sarkozy is thought to be keen on the idea, although in a statement he said he was "upset" that his new wife Cecelia had come 17th.
Blair seems to have recovered his popularity after his decision to invade Iraq provoked harsh criticism in Europe. One pollster suggested that this might be because people had come to understand that he was just following orders.
In a statement, Blair said that he was pleased with the results, as he had "paid rather a lot for them".
"It just shows that you don't know what you've got 'till it's gone" he told a hastily convened press conference. "As soon as Gordon became PM the whole country has gone to the dogs. So it's no surprise people want me back, but this time as their EU overlord. And who can blame them?"
The Prime Minister was unavailable for comment.
