image for Wimbledon to host water polo
Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain...

From 2009 onwards, Wimbledon, the home of lawn tennis for so many years, will be hosting water polo instead of its usual game.

Sir George Willoughby-Smythe, President of the British Lawn Tennis Association, explained "Due to the inclement weather during the past few years, we have had the covers out more often than not. Therefore, we have decided to extend the covers and create a pool."

The BLTA have decided to use the courts for water polo championships.

"Water polo, has a great following, and seemed the logical choice," explained Willoughby-Smythe. "The umpires are undergoing training in the sports rules and the ball boys and girls are to be relocated to local golf clubs."

What do tennis stars think? Former champion, Ginny Wade said "I think it's a bit of a racket! Ooops, sorry about the pun!"
