Six months ago a woman had joined the ancient regiment, The Yeoman of the Guard who maintain a presence at the Tower of London, one of Britain's best-known tourist attractions. She really loves her job and likes being 'a Pioneer' for sexual equality.
Sergeant 'Camerason' Cameron, 40, (no relation to the con leader, David) is only the second woman in history to be discovered amongst their ranks. The last time was in 1534 when Anne Boleyn tried to make her escape from the Bloody Tower on the eve of her execution by trying to make a ladder in her stockings with which to scale its foreboding ramparts.
Ms Cameron told a reporter for Girls 'n Guns that: "she is really just 'one of the lads' and I am looking forward to showing tourists the Crown Jewels. To join such an auspicious regiment has made my 22 year career in the Army worthwhile. I have served tours of duty in Northern Ireland, The Falklands, Iraq and Afghanistan in The Green Howards' as a Corporal and so it will be nice to finish my service on the home front with an extra stripe. Tourists will be able to see how I handle my privates!"
She added: "I am fed up of wearing camouflage and so it will be nice to wear a nice black, red and yellow number. I am determined not to let anything get in my way; including the fact that I have been a vegetarian for most of my life but will be prepared to sacrifice this idiom to become a real Beefeater."
When asked about her new uniform, she enquired: "Does my bum look big in this?"
Her Commanding Officer, Major Rupert Ravensbeak DSO,MM, remarked that: "Sgt. Cameron has been an outstanding soldier and has always been popular wherever she has been stationed. It now gives me great pleasure to serve over her."
