TOUGH Sir Ian Blair once again found himself cracking bricks in half with his forehead today when an official report into the accidental mis-shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes highlights areas where police must stop mis-shooting people who look like darkies.
The report by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) will feel like torture and intolerable bad luck on the saintly Metropolitan police commissioner, already reeling from unfair criticism when he asked the home secretary for more time with his family.
The good news is that today's report will not recommend that the wise and thoughtful commissioner Sir Ian should consider his position. Bravely appearing before the London Assembly yesterday, Sir Ian said a million recommendations had already been put into operation years ago before cracking a brick with his Dr John Reid (Scottish rhyming slang for head).
Yesterday the frontiersman Sir Ian became the first commissioner in history to be told by a democratic body that he had lost their confidence and should quit. But quitting is not his style, and why should it be?
