The Rev Ian Paisley and Gerry Adams have today announced they intend to further demonstrate their commitment to the Northern Irish peace process by agreeing to take part in a celebrity wife swap.
In an unprecedented move, Rev Paisley, a staunch conservative and church leader, agreed to the suggestion during a live televised debate with Mr. Adams, president of Sinn Fein.
It is widely thought Mr. Adams was initially bluffing and was intending to use the suggestion as a way of passively humiliating Rev Paisley on a popular prime time Saturday night television chat show. However Rev Paisley shocked the nation by agreeing to the move and further astounded viewers by saying:
"Gerry, that sounds like a grand idea, so it does! Why don't you seal the deal and throw in your sister too, I hear she cooks a mean steak and Guinness pie"
His plan having hideously backfired, Mr Adams could do nothing but agree and now looks forward to the prospect of spending two weeks with Rev. Paisley's wife, Eileen, who has been married to the Northern Irish church leader since 1956.
Rumours are circulating that a legal agreement is due to be drawn up between the two chiefs ahead of the swap as Rev Paisley is suspicious Mr Adams will cast covetous eyes over his wife but this has yet to be confirmed.
