Before The cucumber hit

Police today confirmed they made nine arrests after a near riot at the royal garden party at Buckingham Palace.

Officers were called to the palace after reports a guest was assaulted with a cucumber sandwich. The victim is thought to have been Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Terry Yernicked, Inspector at Scotland Yard said " Officers were called today at 3pm to a disturbance at the Royal residence. A number of arrests were made and we can confirm we have in custody, Queen Elizabeth 2 and Princess Anne. We had a complaint from Mr Blair that he was assaulted with a sandwich of some sort."

Enquiries are continuing.
