London - (Assinine Press): Singer Britney Spears has won a UK High Court injunction forcing British newspapers to hand over the source of their February 21 story alleging that she shaved her hair "because lice were eating her extensions."
The Daily Mail, the London Evening Standard,UK televsion's ITV News and a host of syndications ran the story as if it was a genuine news item sourced to a bona fide insider.
A rash of blogs soon copied and the rumor spread like wildfire.
But closer scrutiny has revealed that the original headline "Britney: rehab lice ate my extensions" was first published by The Spoof on 14 February, the day Ms Spears was filmed wielding the shears at a LA hairdressers.
Now Spears' attorneys have won the injunction which gives tabloid rags seven days to comply or face worldwide ridicule.
The BBC reported today that "Ms Spears has already mounted a legal challenge concerning "false allegations" which have already been diseminated".
The editor of the Daily Mail is said to be livid.
