image for Simply the best...B.Johnson wins Liar of the Year Award 2016. 'Akin to Ulbricht and Nixon', says expert
A previous winner

Yes, in the end it was pretty close, admitted jury head, Mark Givens, but Johnson's panache and jocular manner of mendacity tipped the scales in his favour.

Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson, as is his full name, fully deserved the award for 'Liar of the Year 2016' having revealed a remarkable, indeed inimitable ability to deceive, mislead and plainly lie to the people of Britain over a longer period of time, yet always maintain an air of cheerfulness and indeed grinning in the process.

"Smile while you lie...." the slogan of Brexit leaders Farage and Johnson, proved an unbeatable weapon in the course of misinforming the gullible folk of the UK. And it was Johnson who won the jury over, with his unflappable confidence in his own fabrications.

"Johnson is a truly remarkable phenomenon, " explained Givens for the jury. "While everyone accepts he is a populistic egomaniac, people still crave his jestful wit when delivering half-truths and untruths. He is a master of his trade. Others, like Farage or Trump for example, are simply too blunt. Johnson, in contrast, reminds us of Walter Ulbricht, the SED leader in East Germany who in 1961 smiled two weeks before the Berlin Wall was built, saying, 'Nobody intends to build a wall. Nobody.' Now the wall around Britain is to be built by Johnson. Mendacious minds truly think alike. Brilliant, simply brilliant..."

Professor Hash, psychologist and sociologist at the University of Preston underlined the jury's decision. "You have to admire Johnson. It's not even deceitful what he does, since he's laughing himself. He knows he's lying, he's enjoying it and is smirking at you, the listener, at the same time. His manner borders on the psychologially genial and, as far as liars go, he deserves the greatest respect. He's akin not just to ruthless political pretenders like Ulbricht, Hitler and Stalin, but also Richard Nixon and Bill Clintion from the States. Thank God he's British...well, actually he's a born American......oh well........
