It seems like every town and village has their own festival. Blacktop Days! is a popular celebration in Alverstone that has been held the first full moon in July since 1973 when the main street was first paved over with a Macadam surface.

Mayor Tom Shovel says that popular events such as miniature animal displays and cake baking are promised as well as the three legged race which has been won the last three years by Bernie Zimmer's disadvantaged horse Bluebell.
Marjorie Givens from 2 Bettsworth is looking forward to her grandchildren from Wroxall attending the festival and visiting her as she has not seen them since last summer
