image for PFA show their ignorance
The writer in black suit

Back in 1983 the Professional Football Association fought a court case on behalf of the player Luther Blissett against 'The Current Bun'. The news paper had alleged that AC Milan had secured a deal with Blissett when in fact they wanted his fellow Watford player John Barnes but the scout could not tell one black player from another. The case was settled out of court but made headlines in Milan. Blissett did not last long in Italy but made a big enough impression for his name to be co opted by the Luther Blissett movement.

Fast forward three decades and we have the case of the PFA awards dinner. This featured the American comedian Reginald D Hunter. A man who uses the N word liberally and does not know much of anything about Football by his own admission. He used his routine to lay into Luis Suarez, Racism in Football, John Terry as well as basically upsetting most of the grandees in attendance. The PFA released an apology in it they managed to clumsily imply that they had confused Reginald D Hunter with Stephen K Amos. "Because they are very alike."

The thing is they are not all that much alike. Hunter is an American who wears his hair in dread locks. He is tall and well build and married. Amos is British by way of Nigeria he wears his hair short and wears glasses he has appeard on Five Live and 'Football Focus' as well as the 'Football League Show' he is also openly gay. Apart from the fact that both men share a skin colour and have a middle initial between two names they are not alike at all.

Of course this is not the first time the PFA have made this sort of cock up. In 1967 they ended up being entertained by Sooty and Sweep when they were expecting 'Steptoe and Son'

Make John_L's day - give this story five thumbs-up (there's no need to register, the thumbs are just down there!)

The story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
