image for Boris Johnson To Run For Tory Leadership
Boris has strong ties with the Conservative Party.

Boris Johnson, MP for Henley-on-Thames, has announced that he will be a candidate in the leadership election in the Tory Party. In his announcement he said that he already has several followers; two dogs, four cats and Kenneth Clarke.

Mr Johnson said "I think I'm the right man for the job. The conservatives are facing a tough time at the moment and I'm the one to resolve that problem."

Michael Howard, another contender, not only has 20 years of MP experience, but the support of over 90 Tory MPs. In response to this, Mr Johnson said "Well I've been deliberating all week, deciding whether to put my job at the Spectator on the line."

"Cripes" he added.

Mr Johnson's decision to run for leadership was in vain as applications closed this lunchtime.

Boris Johnson is married with four children.
