The manager of the London Wetlands Centre admitted today that he overheard Terry the bird feeder call Ferdinand the Eurasion Coot a 'black c##t'.
'I was shocked' said Mr Warnock who has managed the bird sanctuary in West London for 2 years. 'I can't believe Terry has made such a basic mistake.'
'It's one of the first lessons are staff are taught when they work here that the Eurasion or Common Coot may be black in colour but that does not mean it should be referred to as a black c##t.'
'All coots have black plumage but there are several species of the rail family such as the Red Knobbed coot or the White Winged coot, so to refer to each of these birds as black c##ts would be a sweeping generalisation and actually quite offensive to the bird.'
'To me, this is throwback to the kind of attitude the amateur ornothologists back in the 1970s when coots were first introduced to the lakes and rivers of this country.'
It is not yet known what disciplinary action Terry will face if the accusation is true, however the bird feeder made a statement last night protesting his innocence.
'I do not remember calling Ferdinand a black c##t. But if I did then it was not meant as a railist comment.'
