image for Friedrich Nietzsche gets respect from Joey Barton
Fred 'nutter' Nietzsche

Alienated Newcastle footballer Joey Barton has been tweeting fans on Twitter about his "total respect" for German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche.

Barton has told his 170,000 readers that the author of Beyond Good And Evil was "a real nutter" who in his prime was "as hard as Graham Souness".

Tough tackling outcast Barton clearly identifies with bad boy Nietzsche, who defined the problematic relationship between the individual and his football club in his controversial treatise Will To Power.

Joey Barton, who has been called a Nietzschean Antichrist by an Everton fan, has told how as an apprentice footballer he developed his mental strength by reading the philosophic works of Nietzsche:

"That which does not kill us makes us stronger" said Joey, echoing the tough talking German.

Joey Barton, who is currently deconstructing Thus Spake Zarathustra on Twitter, has told readers that he got into Nietzsche when he was a kid growing up in a council estate on Merseyside:

"It defined my existence" tweeted Joey: "I drew a lot of inspiration from seeing 'God Is Dead' painted on the fence in my local park".
